If that doesn't fix it, go to View | Master | Slide Master, then go to the
Title Slide Master. Then go to Format | Master Layout and check the box for
"slide number" to add back the slide number placeholder.
You can also look under Format | Background to make sure "omit background
graphics from master" is not checked.

If this is the case, (and the slide has the correct layout).simply cut and
paste the slide number from the previous slide (or any other with a
number)...and it will automatically update to the correct number.
