Is the slide show set up to run in Kiosk or Full Screen mode (check Slide Show,
Set Up Slide Show)

Thanks for the response Steve.
It is setup to run in full screen mode - it's the first place I checked. We
then tried Kiosk to see if it would help. However, with it, another toolbar
showed up, so we set it back to full screen, but the toolbar didn't go away.

What other toolbar showed up?
Try Tools, Options, View
Remove the check next to "Show popup toolbar"
Click OK

Now give it a shot in Kiosk mode.

Steve, I think it was the slide show navigation toolbar that spread itself
across the bottom of the screen, instead of displaying in the bottom left
corner.
I'll try the settings you suggest and let you know what happens.
Thanks. Diana

Steve, I found out that the toolbar went away. I can't say for sure what we
did that worked or if it went away simply with a reboot, but the taskbar no
longer displays during the slide show, so all is ok. Thanks again for your
time.

Sigh. I'm an idiot. I should have suggested a reboot right off.
Ah well, now we know.
Whether we'll remember ... that remains to be seen, <g>
