I have seen lots of embedded files in PowerPoint presentations. The
problem is that everytime I see someone "opening" an embedded file, the
person has to go out of Show Mode (i.e. clicking Escape), back into Edit Mode
and only then the person can double-click the Icon of the embedded file, so
that it opens.
I would like to know if there is a way to open the embedded file while in
Show Mode (i.e. Execute a PPS file, advance through slides and open a PDF
embedded file contained in page 5 of the PPS file).
Thank you.

Insert a PDF using Insert, Object, Create from File and pick the PDF.

Rightclick the inserted PDF, choose Action Settings.
In the MouseClick tab of the dialog box, choose Object Action.
Open will probably be the only available choice in the dropdown. That's what
you want.

Click OK.

The PDF should now open when clicked in Slide Show view, leaving the PPT show
open behind it.

Thanks Steve. This is exactly what I was trying to do. I now know something
that I've seen many individuals fight with.

You're very welcome. Now pay it forward. <g> Pass the info along to the people
you've seen fighting with it. Thanks!
