Object linking doesn't work in 2007 like in 2003

I link a PP presentation (Announcements.pptx) to be shown at the end of a PP
presentation. I do this by inserting an Object (use file / link to file).
On a weekly basis I change the linked presentation (Announcements.pptx). I
change the second presentation too, keeping the final slide so I don't have
to place the link every time.
I place both presentation in the same directory, overwriting the old
Announcements.pptx (I don't keep a copy of it anywhere).
When I show the first presentation, and it comes to the last slide, it shows
last week's Announcements.pptx, which is not to be found anywhere on the Hard
Drive. If I insert the Announcements.pptx all over again, everyting works
fine.
However, if I change anything in Announcements.pptx, the first presentation
does not show the changed version, but the unchanged version, which is
nowhere to be found on the Hard Drive.
What in the world is going on here?
This used to work fine in 2003.

It sounds as though something's preventing the link from updating automatically; if the
link doesn't update, even though the linked file's gone, PPT still stores a picture of
the file content, which is what you're seeing.

First, open the presentation, choose Office Button | Prepare | Edit Links.
Make sure the link's set to update automatically.

Then save, close and reopen the presentation.

When you open the first presentation, do you get a dire security warning about how the
presentation contains links that might damage your computer or put an end to life on
this planet as we know it or similar foolishness?

If not, I'm guessing that your security settings are preventing PPT from updating the
link. Go to Office Button | PowerPoint Settings | ActiveX Settings | and set it to
"Prompte me before ..." or "Enable all ..." then close and restart PPT, try your file
again.

That may or may not do it, but it's a start.
