And if you want text faster, you can usually select the auto shape and just
start typing without the menu commands..

Does that work in all versions of PowerPoint? I seem to remember that not
workng some time ago, but now I have newer versions, so I can't check in
which version it didn't work.

In PPT 97 and on for sure; not certain about PPT95 and prior (but not real
worried about it either <g>)
It doesn't work for certain shapes (freeforms, for example)
