Greetings...

I need help!

The following two error messages appear when I try to open
PowerPoint v. 2000:

1. "PowerPoint couldn't open the Visual Basic for
Applications Project in Presentation: c:\Program files\
Microsoft Office\Office\ppmusic.ppa"

2. "PowerPoint found an error that it can't correct. You
should save presentations, quit, and then restart
PowerPoint."

I have ignored message one because I could click on OK and
continue working without any problem.

However, with message two, I am out of commission! I
tried all the troubleshooting recommended and tried to
repair and reinstall Office 2000. No resolution.

If anyone has any recommendations, I would welcome them.

Thank you very much.

John Anthony.

Hi John,
A couple of ideas here. As far as the first message is concerned, go to:
Tools-Add-ins while in PowerPoint and see if you have any ad-ins you can
remove that might stop the first error message. As for the 2nd error
message, I'm going to guess you have Norton Anti-Virus? If so, follow the
steps in this link:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;q320365 it's not
exactly the same process you are going through, but if you are running
Norton, then the "fix" certainly applies! Post back if you need more help.

Rory

John,

Apparently you upgraded from PowerPoint 97. There was a Custom Soundtrack
Add-in for PPT97 that you may have installed. It doesn't work with
PowerPoint 2000 and gives the error you reported, and thanks for squirting
it across verbatim, baud love ya ;-)

You can remove it thus (pardon the formatting imbecilities courtesy of
Outlook Excess):

1.. Exit PowerPoint.
If you try to remove the Custom Soundtrack Add-In while PowerPoint
is running, you may receive error messages similar to the following:

Setup could not remove the file 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\Office\PPMUSIC.PPA'. It is in use by another application.

followed by:

Setup could not remove the file 'C:\Windows\System\Ppmusicau.dll'.

2.. Run the Setup program for the Custom Soundtrack Add-In.
This file is called Setup.exe and is located on your PowerPoint 97
or Office 97 compact disc in the \ValuPack\MusicTrk folder.

3.. Click the Remove All button. When the Setup program asks you if
you want to remove the PowerPoint Custom Soundtracks Add-In, click Yes.

4.. When Setup completes, use Windows Explorer or File Manager to
delete the following folder:

C:\Multimedia Files\Music\Interactive Music
