Does anyone know how to extract an embedded True Type font from a PowerPoint
file? Need help quick!

It may depend on the version of PPT and/or the font itself; check your
\Fonts folder after opening the presentation. You may see the font appear
there. If so, you're in luck.

In other cases, the font may not support that level of embedding and may
only be usable by PPT while the presentation is open. That'd be because
the font manufacturer has elected not to allow PPT to act as a font
distribution mechanism. IOW, there's not much to be done about it.

There's also additional font information at Geetesh Bajaj's site,

wouldn't extracting the embedded font be breaking copyright?

surely

it would wouldn't it?

Just like the ability of a font to refuse to be embedded in the first place,
there's another setting within the font that determines if it can be
installed locally. Not sure how that would work, but with regards to
copyrights it's real murky. IOW, can I if I can? Possibly but not always, I
suspect.

Thanx to all! You've all been really helpfull! BTW the font was originally
created for and emmbeded in that .ppt file by the company I work for.
Therefore there are no copright violations.

Do an Explorer file search your Windows drive for all *.TTF files
Note where they're located. You might even want to leave the results window
open.

Start PPT, open the file with this embedded font.
Do another Explorer file search for TTF files.
See if anybody new turns up, compared to the first one. If so, there's your
font, most likely. Make a copy of it and put it someplace safe.

I did just that but the only thing that changed were eight new files and
none of them were .ttf. I renamed the so that they have the ttf extension
but Windows still won't recognize them as True Type fonts. Are there any
other suggestions? Thanx!

The only other thing I can suggest is that you doublecheck your Explorer
view settings. By default it's set not to show all files (hides certain
file types, hides files with the Hidden or System attributes set and so
forth). If the font's getting extracted to disk but saved there as a hidden
file, the file search thingie won't cough it up, I'm pretty sure, if
Explorer's set not to show hidden files.
