Does anyone know of a transition where the previous slide
gets "destroyed", perhaps by fire or something similar?

Hi,

Nope. But I tried tipping a glass of water over a laptop and it made a lot
of noise.

BTW, I left the unit in the cupboard for a week and re-booted, and it's OK.
All except my uni assignment!

I don't know if there's an actual transition that you're asking for, but as
a work-around, I'd insert a slide (choose a burning-colour backgound - pun
intended) then insert a fire animation (enlarge it to fill most of the
screen). There's lots of them out there. I have a couple that I've
collected if you want one. I would use the "cut" slide transition (in XP)
and give it a delay so that it displays for a bit.

Hope that helps.

You left out the part about "I'm a trained professional computing on a
closed course. Don't try this at home, kids"

Nice trick and good suggestion, Diana.

Only other thing I can think of is to see if something like Crystal Graphics
has such a transition. I confess I'm not aware of one, though.
