When I insert a picture and then insert a hyperlink into the picture I get
an opportunity to place a screentip onto the hand cursor. However if I
choose not to insert the screen tip at that time, I cannot place a screen
tip when editing the hyperlink, even if I delete the hyperlink and then
re-insert it. How can I insert a screen tip into a picture that already has
a hyperlink?

I am using PP2000 on XP Home.

TIA

Malcolm

Hi, Malcolm ... 2000/XP Home here also. If I rightclick, choose
Hyperlink --> Edit Hyperlink, I can access the Screen Tip button and
add/edit the screen tip text, whether I previously added a screen tip or
not.

If that's not how you're doing it, give it a shot. And if it doesn't fly,
please explain step by step exactly how you inserted the picture and added
the link in the first place. Thanks

Steve

When I right click, Hyperlink ----> Edit Hyperlink the 'Action settings'
dialog box comes up (instead of the Edit Hyperlink dialog box) giving me the
option to edit the Hyperlink, but not the Screen tip.

Funny thing, when I selected another PP presentation, added a picture,
inserted a hyperlink, closed, right click the picture, Hyperlink ---> Edit
hyperlink, the Edit Hyperlink dialog box appears with access to the Screen
tip.

I am confused.

Hmmm. How many hyperlinks are in the first presentation? PPT reserves a
limited amount of space for hyperlink data - once you exceed it, weird stuff
starts to happen. I wonder if you're seeing that here?

The chunk of reserved space is 64k, but that also includes document
properties.

It's not the sheer number of slides or hyperlinks that matters, it's the
amount of data represented by the hyperlinks *and* the presentation's
properties.

Side question: does anybody know whether this datachunk includes custom AND
standard properties or just custom? And whether it includes action settings
as well as hyperlinks? IOW, what exactly is considered to be a hyperlink?

You might download FixLinks Pro at http://get.pptools.com
The download's a free demo that includes a links reporter. It might give
you some idea as to the size and number of links.

Steve

Thanks for the FixLinks tip. It hasn't solved my original problem but saved
another potential problem.
