Does it always happen on the same slide, or is it specifically a time
interval?

Here are some things I have installed that I think operate on some sort of
schedule.
Mozy (automated backup)
Google desktop
MS indexed desktop
Sealed Media (no idea why, but this is in the toolbar and is always spinning)
MS Active Synch (for a MS Mobile device)
CA Antivirus
The ones most recently installed were the sealed media and the active synch.
If PPT behaves properly then, I'd turn each one back on in the msconfig
window until I found the culprit.

Hmm.
I wonder how much of the systraywigglies you could turn off (w/o affecting the
normal user profile) if you created a new user called, say "Presenter". Log in
as presenter, turn off everything in sight, use that profile for giving
presentations.
