I'm trying to embed a 2 meg video clip in a PPT. I insert it, works fine, but
won't run withiout the video file stored on the same computer/folder. Is
there a way to connect it directly to the presentation?

Also, I have an .exe file that I want to do the same with. I get an icon on
the slide, click on it and I get a series of warnings about running .exe
files, etc.... several windows to go through to get it to run and I dont want
all that in the presentation.

Thanks

Video will always be linked.
Here's a method which you can have a try. Take note tough, that there are
some drawbacks with this method:

Here's another take on the problem:-
Create a self extracing installer with win Rar that puts all the files in
the right place and creates a shortcut on the desktop.

(We know that the my documents folder isnt the shortest of paths but it
usually doesnt cause problems and its where the recipient expects to find
things)

Afraid not. Videos are always linked (to external files), never embedded.

This explains how to fix that (on your own PC or those you have control over):

You might want to give the free add in "PFCExpress" a try. It will take
care of any linked files (and correct links) and save everything as a zip
file or automatically send it all out in an email. http://www.pfcmedia.com

you can use ppt to exe converter, it can embed any files linked in ppt file, and enterprise edition even can embed fonts that powerpoint can not.

You mean iexpress?
If you want something free that's already on your Windows computer, Google
"iexpress PowerPoint". It works pretty well for the average user if you
follow the instructions.
