I have created a bar chart in Power Point, but the bars are very thin with
large gaps between each bar. I have right clicked on the bars and gone into
the Format data series window and altered the gap width to "0", but it
doesn't do anything!

Please help, this is driving me mad!

Hi,

Normally skinny bars are caused by the chart thinking the axis is of
date type rather than category. Right click and choose chart options. On
the axis tab set the axis to be category.

Cheers
Andy

Double click on the chart to edit it. Double click on one of the bars to open
the "Format Data Series" dialog box. Click the Options tab. Adjust Overlap
and Gap widths to create your desire bar width and gap width.

Let me know how this helps.

And another year later:
I had this same problem, using dates. I changed the axis from dates to text under Axis Options.

I wish EVERYBODY that answers with the gap setting information would stop. Yes it SLIGHTLY enlarges but people are asking in reality for much larger bars than this. I want large bars and the damn gaps to same the same. Is there a woman out there that can answer this?

July 31, 2021 I don't even SEE gap width anywhere. I did change the axis from dates to text under Axis Options but my bars are still very small compared to the charts I made last year.
