John,

First off, PowerPoint indents, tabs, etc. affect the whole text box, not
just the current line/para as in Word.

You've got a couple of options for sub-heads. One is doing them in a
completely separate text box, no bullet, no indent. The advantage here is
you can change the format easily for all of the subheads without having to
click in the box and select the subhead text.

Other option is to use the first bullet level for the subhead (with no
bullet) and the second level for the "first" bulleted line. If you hold down
ctrl while dragging the indent doohickeys on the ruler, you can overlap
them.
