I have a print job and it is in powerpoint. The background is 2 colors of
blues. When I print it from our printer (HP 5500), the color is purple. I
have already color calibrated my printer, but still no luck.
Do you have any suggestions?

PowerPoint and printers in general are not the best of friends. Try to print
the presentation as a PDF and then try printing the PDF to the color printer
(Acrobat has better print options, as well as color profile options).

I'm guessing your printer is a CMYK device; PowerPoint is strictly RGB.
Purplish blues are one of the prime giveaways that tell you that RGB 255,0,0 is
getting converted to CMYK.

Color calibrating the printer won't do you much good unless you print from a
program that can use the printer's color profile (ie, that are capable of being
calibrated themselves). PowerPoint isn't on that list.

You could try exporting the slides to images and then printing from Photoshop
or some other program you're familiar with (and that can use printer color
profiles)
