I have seen this happen in some programs. But only with the <Control +
Backspace> which deletes a word at a time. For example, if you <Control +
Backspace> in Notepad, that is what you will get.
The only thing I can think of is maybe the keyboard is playing up. Maybe try
another keyboard, or check keyboard language settings in the Control Panel.

How about StickyKeys? It's an assistive app for people who have to use
mouth sticks and the like to type. Press CTRL once, Windows acts like the
CTRL key is held down until you press it again.
we have the same problem with several computers. I´ve posted this problem 6
month ago, but there was no solution. Must be a problem with windows xp,
because:
- happens on different hardware, but all of them have windows xp os ( MUI,
English, German ). We have no problems with windows 2000 clients
- we are using Office 2000 (SR1) Multilanguage ( English / German ) .
Deleting and installing Office XP on this machines or switching the Office-
or OS-Language doesn´t help
- sometimes Office repair solves the problem, sometimes a new clean
installation of windows xp
- btw: Windows XP Service Pack 1 doesn´t help !
But in most cases users have to reboot periodically to reset funtionality of
Powerpoint. Some users reported, that in the same time the del- key doesn´t
work in Outlook 2000.
We spent many hours to find a solution, but we had no success. I think, must
be something with the way, WinXP handles the Ctrl, Alt and Shift - keys.
Maybe, it internally adds ( buffer ) one of these keys, when you press del,
backspace or arrow key. To illustrate the rectangles: I can "create" them
pressing Ctrl,Shift and DEL - key in Powerpoint 2k

Couple of things I would check:
Have you tried starting PowerPoint in safe more (no macros)?
Have you tried attaching a different keyboard?
Have you tried changing the default office language?
Have you tried changing the keyboard language/settings?
Were all the computers loaded from the same Office CD?
Are there any "key capture" programs running on these computers?
Let us know if one of these fixes the problem.
