Screen Problems

I have used ppt on my mac(s) for years, and suddenly a strange problem
has developed. Essentially, I get a blank (black) screen which does
not respond to escape etc. (I need to force quit)

This sometimes appears after the final slide (eg if I press forward at
the last slide, it locks up with this dead screen), sometimes it goes
into it as soon as I start the show.

My immediate reaction was that it was a monitors problem, and restting
the colour to thousands did indeed enable me to screen one show, but
the the final slide prblem kicked in!!

Help??
