We are getting ready to attend a trade show next week and would like to use
the Terminal Offline Mode to ring sales at the show. I have a couple of
questions about this:

We will not have any network or internet access at the show. How can we
accept credit cards without having to get a verification?

When we bring the terminal back to the store and synch up, will the credit
card transactions just settle normally then, or are there special
considerations?

Thanks.

Rick,

The only recommended thing you can do is to get a voice auth, put it in first, then swipe the card.  They will post with the next card batch after the re-sync. The voice auth is usually good for just 72 hours though.  Sure you can't get Internet thru your cell phone?

Otherwise, use the knuckle buster to imprint the card, ring the sale as Cash, sync when you get back in to the store, void each credit card sale rung as cash and re-enter it, manually entering the card number.  Can be kinda risky and expensive as the manual entries will cost you more!!

Ugh. Voice auth sounds terribly cumbersome and slow.

There is actually Internet available, but it's rediculously expensive --
wireless is $750 and wired is $1500.

Tell me more about getting the Internet through a cell phone. This can be
done in a way that RMS could dial out when it needs an auth?

Rick,

Contact your cell phone provider for the options they offer.

Some offer a PC card that will fit into your laptop and uses the cellular service as a connection to the Internet.

Others use a USB cable that plugs into your existing cell phone and dials out using it to connect to the Internet.

Some offer a completely different service to connect at higher speeds, but really not needed for credit card transactions, unless your want to play World of Warcraft or browse the Internet during your breaks. ;-)
