I have been unable to update the ROM in my 5455 to 1.10.

When I run the update the software cannot find the 5455 and I get the
message "ERROR:CONNECTION".

I have followed the instructions, reset the 5455, Activesync
connected, but to no avail.

I have tried Activesync 3.6, 3.5 and 3.7 in the order and on 2
different PC's.

Any ideas??

TIA,

Dale.

I also have h5455, when I tried update, it worked well.
I used USB connection.

1. After Next, Next in Update utility, after a few seconds, the
hourglass showed on LCD screen for some seconds.
2. The device was reset automatically.
3. HP logo screen with bar appeared on LCD.
4. Update utilty showed my device information.

What shows on your LCD?

Dale,

be glad you're not using the German version. What I got was something
like this from the update software:

Wrong ROM version!

Present version: (date correct) (version correct) Language: GERMAN

New Version: (date correct) (Version correct) Language: GERMANY

See the difference? Think I ever heard back from HP after reporting the
problem? Jeeze!

Maybe I can be a help to you.
Could you tell me the other information of your device?
I mean ROM date, ROM version which show in the update utility.
And where did you get your update utility from?
Could you tell me the file name and the file link?

I wil be going to check this with my device, and let you know the
result.

Best regards,

Yes, I'm back. With my device, the update works well.
My device was 1.00.50 GER.

I downloaded "SP24081.exe" from hp website.
The information says:
Language: GERMAN
Name: HP iPAQ PocketPC h5400 Series ROM Update
Release Date: 2003-4-17
Version: 1.10.xx

When I executed the update utility, it showed the following informatin
after some steps.
Present version: (date correct) 1.00.50 GERMANY
New version: (date correct) 1.10.00 GERMANY

The update went well, and I got my device 1.10.00 GER.
I have no idea what is the problem on your side.

I am trying to install the ROM update as well. After starting
SP24093.exe and following all of the instructions, I also get the
ERROR:CONNECTION message. I've checked everything I could think of,
and have no idea what I can do. My current version is 1.00.45 ENG and
I am using Activesync 3.7 and a USB/Cradle connection. If any one has
a possible solution, please let me know. I've looked around HP's site,
but can't seem to find any information on the subject.

Thanks,

Nathan

You say you're using the USB/Cradle option, the update UI says you'll get
this error if you're sync'ing via USB.

Try switching to the serial port/cradle connection.

And by the way, in my experience the new 5455 ROM update sucks complete ass.
Nothing but spotaneous hard resets. After 12 hours of this, I restored the
previous ROM image and backup I made prior to the update, I was already
running all the other patches.

Nothing wrong with the giving the ROM update a shot, but by all means make
sure you backup the current ROM image if you haven't already.

I did my update via USB cradle. The problem seems to be in the chipsets of some
motherboards that control USB. Also, the USB ports on your motherboard are a
USB hub. Try removing all USB devices except the unit.

Me and 2 people I know upgraded via USB.

I just found an earlier update on HP's web site. I was able to update
from 1.00.45 to 1.10.00 ENG with no problem using USB. After that
update, I had no problem finally getting the 1.11.19 update to install
with no problem. Thanks to everyone who responded.

I noticed that several people have suggested backing up the old ROM image
prior to upgrading the ROM, but I have no idea how to do this. Any help
would be appreciated, because I am geting tired of having to do a soft reset
before starting my WiFi. Thanks in advance.
