I have a Nokia 3360 with an infrared port and an Audiovox 1032 (PocketPC
2002). The information says I should be able to transfer data between the
two devices as v.business cards. I can successfully send information from
the phone to the pda, but when beaming from Audiovox, it recognizes the
Nokia 3360 but no transfer takes place.

The info also says I should be able to use the phone as a wireless modem.
The instructions are for the PocketPC but it fits. When I try to use it,
the phone just beeps like it either can't find the number or it is out of
service and the pda reports the number doesn't answer. I can dial the phone
and hear the computer tone on the receiving end... so I know the number is
good.

Any help with either of these?

Have you enabled 'Data Service' on your phone account? Without this you
won't be able to connect.

Welcome to the club! I too have a Maestro and a 3360, and it's one
way only.

Who's your cell provider? Not all of them support wireless data.
AT&T's TDMA network (your 3360 is a TDMA phone) does not, for example.
Cingular does, but to use CSD, you have to add "wireless internet" to
your account for $3.99/month. This includes the use of Cingular as an
ISP, however.

Unfortunately, the 3360, just like every digital cell phone with a
"modem" built-in, doesn't REALLY have a modem in the traditional
sense.

Digital cell modems don't really connect to other modems. They only
send/receive data to/from the cell phone
provider itself, using a function called "CSD" or Circuit Switch Data,
your provider then makes an analog modem connection to the "real
world" for you from a bank of modems at their HQ.

This is why the provider has to support the modem function in the
phone for it to work.

Right, but you calling it in voice mode. When your PPC initiates the
call, the phone goes into data mode, and if the carrier doesn't
support data, the call never connects, hence the error message on the
PPC.
