I've been using PPC on a Compaq IPaq synching against a
Compaq Deskpro running Win2000 via USB for a couple of
months without problems. Today I attempted to do a synch
and got the following error on the handheld:

"Cannot start communications with the desktop computer.
Winsock servies coud not start due to a critical error
(Error %d).

Please reconnect your device. If the persists see the
Troubleshooting section of the Microsoft ActiveSync Help."

Of course the Microsoft ActiveSync Help points to an
online troubleshooter that isn't available for some reason.

In any case, I tried all the obvious things, reconnected
the device, deleted and reinstalled ActiveSync 3.5, even
tried switching from the USB port to the COM port and
back. Same result every time.

Anyone have any idea what might be causing this problems.
Thanks!

Sal

Answered my own question. Rebooting the IPaq fixed the
problem. Should've done that first.

Sal,
I keep on getting the same error and even after doing a
soft reset of IPAQ3765 I still cannot connect to my Dell
windowsXP prof notebook.

The desktop says that it's connecting..... and still says
it's connecting.

Any ideas?
Thanks for any suggestions
Simon
