My buddy and I tried to get Portrait to work together, we
only were able to send text messages to each other. We
were never able to setup the audio/video aspect. If I'm
going to send text, I might as well use MSN Messenger, at
least it has "quick" text messaging features.
Microsoft Portrait is in "beta testing", good thing they
don't charge for it, it ain't worth 5 cents...

Sorry you had a problem, but it works fine in audio for me. I'm
using it through 802.11b wireless and a Linksys router too. I did
have to forward some ports on the router to get to my external IP
address, but that took about two minutes. The audio works great and
is really clear for me on Portrait.

Hope you can get it working if you should decide to try again. I
agree that Portrait would not add anything beyond Pocket MSN
Messenger if you could only use it in text chat mode.

It's worth every cent I paid for it and more!

: )

I didn't know about this software until your post; downloaded, installed
it and it works perfectly.

In fact, Microsoft Portrait is developed by MS Research, not by the
Pocket PC Team. It's an example of technology to come on mobile
devices, and the beta release that is out now has been working fine
for many people.

It's not even that. It's a technology tiral project.

Beyond the text chat and audio, I've even got one way video working to my
Jornada via an 802.11 CF card. The docs indicate it doesn't support working
through the cradle, and I agree, and therefore couldn't do two way video.
Have read reports of iPaqs with dual sleeves, allowing camera and network
cards to get two way video going. As a tech demo, it is pretty cool.
