Hello

I am thinking about expanding my Ipaq 3630 with a Compact Flash Card of 128
MB. Can anybody give me some advise on the following :

- Should i buy a PCMCIA expansion pack and a converter in order to use the
compact flash card, or is it better to buy a compact flash expansion pack.
In the future i also would use a pcmcia network card. What are the
advantages of both solutions ? Is there a difference in performance ?
- Does it take a long time to upload files to a compact flash card ? What is
the fastest solution ?
- Now i am using a serial port cradle, or the IR Port. Is it recommended to
buy a USB-cable ? Would that increase the performance of transferring files
significantly ?

Thank you all for your advise !

Martijn

Hi,

There is no difference in speed using either of the jackets, however the
PCCARD jacket has additional battery in it for another 5-6hours of use. but
it is bulkier and heavier than the compact flash jacket.

There is a dual PCCard jacket available now which is bulkier again, but
ideal if you wish to use both Additional memory and another card modem,
network etc..

The USB connection I found significantly faster on data transfer than the
serial cradle. About 4-5 times faster for me.

The fastest way to upload data to the compact flash would be to use a CF
card reader directly into the PC's USB port or if using a laptop get a
compact flash to PCMCIA adapter.

If you wish to compare sizes and for reviews of these options, there are
some good pics at http://www.pocketpcpassion.com

Hope this helps.

Definitely go with the USB cable! And, if you can swing the expense, the
PCMCIA sleeve is great. It's just a bit bulkier, but the extra battery is a
real boon.

difinatelly go for the pcmcia sleeve, its only lightly more bulky (<5mm),
but the extra expansion possibilities are much greater. i have a 5gig hdd in
it currently.

Where can I get one? The PCMCIA sleeve... for the 2 GB micro drives?

And the cost?
