I am trying to setup a standard VPN connection through the
work settings of the connection manager with no luck.

The connection to the internet is made by GPRS (which
allows access to vpn's) I have setup the VPN tab and the
connection seems to try to connect but all I recieve is a
message saying "connecting".
It does ask for a userid, password and domain but it just
gets stuck on connecting.

Could somebody please advise on a workaround

when i activated my phone, they asked if i wanted to use vpn, and i said
yes, so they set it up. it dials internet3 instead of internet2 via gprs.
this is t-mob, by the way. did you activate with the vpn option?

After 1.5 hrs on the phone with their tech support (800-
256-9991), this is how to do it:

Start/Settings/Connections tab
Tap on Connections
1st dropdown should be Internet Settings
2nd dropdown should be Work Settings

Modify the Internet Settings on the Modem tab;
-1st entry should be "T-Mobile Internet" with phone #
internet2.voicestream.com
-2nd entry should be "T-Mobile VPN" with phone #
internet3.voicestream.com
-hold down on the T-Mobile VPN setting and select "Always
Dial"
-Press ok

Modify the Work settings;
- on the Modem tab, make sure no entries
- on the VPN tab, create a new entry and put in the IP of
your PPTP VPN server
- on the Proxy Settings tab, clear out all entries
- Press ok

Modify the Dialing Locations:
- on the Dialinig Locations tab, select the Dialing
Patterns button and put G in the three fields, press ok.

Press the Connect button under the Work Settings entry in
the middle of the screen. It will ask for your
id/password/domain for your PPTP VPN connection.

Voila!
