E-Books to Pocket PC

I downloaded 2 ebooks. Both my PC and PPC ms readers are
activated. I copied the two book files to my PPC and they
appear in the library. When I try to read either one, I
get a message "Microsoft Reader is no longer able to
access the book."

WTF!

If you have an SD memory card in your PPC, check to make sure it's
making full contact. Occasionally the contacts get a slight bit of
corrosion or whatever, and I find that taking the card out (with your
PPC off, of course) and reinserting it sometimes makes the book
accessible again.

point.

Never heard of that possibility much less the problem... can you post
your device make/model and os?

There should be no functional difference with files located on a memory
card vs main memory. Could you be referencing a pre WinMobile5 device
and a problem with running the main battery dead and loosing all of your
main memory?

A pre-WM5 device, yes. WM2003SE.
If you open a book from a card with MSReader, leave it open, and have the
power set to switch off automatically after e.g.10 mins, it's as if MSReader
isn't notified when the power comes back and consequently its handle to the
book goes off into nowhere land, so you mostly get to see another page or
two then the error message comes up. Copying the book off the card into
'storage' memory never shows that problem. Doesn't always seem to happen
though. I haven't any 'science' to support this - just from observation,
really. (The device is a Toshiba E800 - it's been a real treasure) No idea
if it can happen with WM5 or 6.

My primary suspect would be a large card containing a lot of files.

ms didn't write reader according to their own rules... reader searches
"all storage" for reader files which can take a long time plus, if the
file is large, it can take a long time to load. In this case, guessing
again, files in ram are going to show up quicker since reader searches
there first.

Back to your original assumption... the card is probably getting
"rediscovered" so, one question would be if you turned it back on, does
reader "eventually" find the file? (you may have to touch the screen or
press a cursor key to keep it awake long enough)

diagnostic questions;

Is this an audio book or text?

is the book in the card's "My Documents" folder?

If it's an audio book, do you still hear the audio after power down?

cf or sd card

card make/model capacity and total amount of space used.
