Please Christine, if you have any news on when we can hope to see this then
please do tell, or if the hoped for fix failed testing then please let us
know.
I agree that you are all due an update. Thanks for bringing this up Jon.
Here is the current status:
The WM 5.0 issue has been resolved. The code is currently in testing. We
were slated to release early this week but a last minute backward
compatibility bug was found that is preventing our release. I know that this
has been forthcoming for a while and your continued patience is greatly
appreciated. I will post back here as soon as we have additional release
information.
Sincerely,
Christine - Microsoft Reader Team

In what form can we expect to see the solution to the problem, ie will it be
available directly from MS so we can just 'Patch' our copy of ms reader
or will it be an OS type fix and have to go VIA the OEM Vendors, so we end
up waiting for them to package it up for release? (Desperately hoping it'll
be available via MS)
Once again many thanks for your answers.

Very good question! I am happy to say that this fix will take the form of an
updated Reader that will be available via the web at
http://www.microsoft.com/reader when it is complete. I will post email and a
link when we are live so that all of you incredibly patient folks will be
able to get at it as soon as it is available.
Sincerely,
Christine - Microsoft Reader Team

Any thought.

Yes, indeed we did upgrade the install today for WM 5.0 as well as fixing
some setup issues (we now support installing your Reader to removable media
without having to move files to activate). I'm guessing that you are
probably dealing with a cached install. Please do the following:
On the desktop go to Control Panel | add/remove programs
Find the Microsoft Reader for PPC install entry
Click on modify/uninstall
Close add/remove and control panel
Cradle device
Open ActiveSync and sync the device
Go to Tools | Add/Remove programs
Select the Reader and go to the Remove all section at the bottom
Click remove
Once the release has disappeared from the program listing close the
add/remove programs dialog
Go to http://www.microsoft.com/reader/downloads/ppc.asp
Click on the setup.exe
Choose "run" and follow the install instructions.
If this does not resolve your issue please post back and we will do our
best to assist you.
Sincerely,
Christine - Microsoft Reader Team

Have you followed the Vista activation instructions here: http://das.microsoft.com/activate/en-us/activatefaq.asp#fa_vista

Also, what operating system are the handhelds running? Reader does not yet
work with Windows Mobile 6.1.

If I remember right, certain hp ipaqs were missing a file on the system
to activate the MS Reader software.
Here is the link to the fix:
A fix for HP users, like my iPAQ HP 2970 WM5 is available from HP;

Hope this helps,
