Hello,

I am new to windows pocketpc. I have downloaded and installed Visual C++
express 2008 edition. I want to do some development for windows pocket pc.
My question is : what addition software / development kit do I need to get
started. Can you give me a location where I can download, is it free ?

thanks a lot

John

John,

You'd need Visual Studio 2005 Standard or above or Visual Studio 2008 Pro or
above. There are no tools you can add to the Express edition for device
development. In the past you could use Embedded Visual C++, which was free,
but I don't think that's still available.

In addition to VS, you'd also need the Windows Mobile SDK for the device
you're targeting if it isn't included already in the version of VS you're
using. The SDKs are free and can be downloaded from
developer.windowsmobile.com.

Yes it is. Just google "Embedded Visual C++" and you will see a Microsoft page
as the second hit. You can still download EVC++ 4.0 for free from Microsoft.

Thanks for the update, Robert. Obviously I haven't looked for it lately. ;-)
