Hi!

What are the possibilities to run java-bytecode on pocketpc-devices?

Hope someone can tell me.

Thank You,
Gregor

There are several Java Virtual Machines for Pocket PC. One of the best is
chaiVM by HP. Other are: Jeode (http://www.insignia.com/products/qa.asp) and
java machine by AromaSoft
http://www.aromasoft.com/e/product/product_Java.html. May there are even
more but I don't know about them.

By the way, if you find more, could you write me?

Thank you for your answer.

I studies the website and learnt that PersonalJava must be the right choice,
but unfortunately it is not fully compatible with WinCe3.0 (this is states
in the
FAQ).

Did you try it nevertheless?

Thank you for your answer!

Did you try ChaiVM?
If yes, where did you get it from?
I cannot find a free download opportunity on the HP-website.

You can also buy "Jeode", which is an implementation of PersonalJava from
Insignia Solutions, for the iPaq from compaq.handango.com. They're charging
$20 for it.

I spent the $20 for it and am pretty dissapointed (big, runs in PPC compatbility
mode with the taskbar on the bottom, no doc), but YMMV.

Cam,

I see the same as you. Which is why I contribute to the various Waba
efforts.

There is also J9 from http://www.embedded.oti.com (an IBM company). It is
also available for Palm and other platforms.
I'd be very interested to hear from other Java developers what they have to
say about using Java for PDA applications.

Noel:

The only problem I have with Waba & its derivatives is that it isn't clear
to me that it's robust enough for deploying commercial grade apps. Maybe
you have a different view on this - which I'd like to hear because I'm finding
the whole Java-on-WinCE situation very frustrating.
