Please help.

If you know anything at all related to this problem, please post. No
information is too little.

Application(s):
Windows Media Player 10 (10.00.00.3646)
Plus! Digital Media Edition: Audio Converter
plusdme_audioconverter_update1.exe

Problem: I have seen many posts about this, but no resolution. The problem
involves trying to convert Windows WMA files to Mp3, using the Windows Media
Player 10 and Plus! Digital Media Edition: Audio Converter.

Microsoft has issued a “patch” (plusdme_audioconverter_update1.exe
) … but it does not work on this PC.

I have installed the same application combination on a different PC, and the
patch works fine.

On the working PC the Audio Converter lists an available ‘Output file
format’ as mp3 … as it should.

On the non-working PC, the Audio Converter lists an available ‘Output file
format’ as MPEG Layer-3.

The PC that lists MPEG Layer-3 will not convert to mp3; and mp3 is not
listed as an option to choose … hence I cannot convert WMA’s to mp3.

Why does one install of the Audio Converter list MPEG Layer-3 and the other
install lists mp3?

Please help! I am really frustrated by this problem.

Thank you,
Sid

Fixed.

The problem seems to lie in the order in which you load the applications.

For these applications to work, you might need to install them in this order:

Plus! Digital Media Edition
PlusDME_AudioConverter_Update1.exe
Windows Media Player 10 (Reinstall if already installed)

I tryed downlaoding all the Codec packs, Media Center Updates etc. and none
of them worked until uninstalled all the applications (listed above) and then
reinstalled them in the order listed.

Worked for me.

I can now convert WMAs to mp3. However, I am really starting to wonder why I
would want to. It looks as though the WMAs are MUCH smaller. On my original
PC the the file size difference was not notable. But for some reason, now the
WMAs are almost half the size of the mp3s.

Oh well. At least, I solved my problem. Sometimes it's just the challenge
that keeps you going.

Good luck.

Sid, I'm having a similar problem. when I try to convert WMA files that have
been recorded using Plus Analog Recorder the audio converter says the file
cannot be converted because it uses an unrecognised codec. Any ideas would be
a help.

I use third-party tool to convert. download at
http://www.download.com/MP3-OGG-WAV-WMA-Converter/3000-2140_4-10513503.html?tag=lst-0-1
Protected WMA files can't be converted, so you need to make sure the
WMA files are not copyright protected first.

Does anyone know?:
Do you have to purchase and install the full "Plus! Digital Media Edition"
in order to convert CDs to MP3s? I don't want the photo software, etc. I'm
only looking to convert CDs to MP3s. I have the Windows Media Player 10
version. I apparently need an audio converter now. Do you have suggestions
on a simple product that's not loaded with things I don't need?

==============================
You don't need Plus! Digital
Media Edition to RIP CDs.

Have you tried ripping the CD
with Windows Media Player?

For info...open Windows Media
Player 10 and search Help for:
"Ripping music from CDs"

If you go to...Tools / Options /
Rip Music...you can choose the
output format...wma or.mp3.

Maybe this article will offer an idea:

(884840) You receive an error message

I realize this is an old post but it was exactly what I needed tonight.
Worked for me even though I'm not using Media Player 10 - I'm using 11.
Maybe it's because I installed the Plus Audio Converter tonight and Media
Player 11 was already installed. For the record: I'm using Windows XP Home
Edition, 2002, Service Pack 3; Windows Plus Superpack Audio Converter;
Windows Media Player 11.
