I just went to install some freeware that failed because the installer
alleged it couldn't find PSDK-x86.msi. I hunted on the web and discovered
PSDK-x86.msi is part of the Windows Platform SDK. I installed the SDK for
this system eons ago but thought maybe an upgrade was in order. I went to
http://www.microsoft.com/msdownload/platformsdk/sdkupdate/ for that purpose,
which claimed it supported my Windows 2000 Pro platform as well as others.
I selected the CoreSDK and "Install this SDK". It selected "Core SDK
(Windows Server 2003)" and I couldn't deselect it. It suggested that I
should upgrade DAO2.7 and Installer2.0, which I did. Then I clicked
"Continue" and maybe something else. Then I got the Message Box saying "The
currently installed SDK is not in its original installation directory. The
installation can not continue. Pleas go to the Add/Remove Programs,
uninstall the SDK, and try again.
I did find "Microsoft SDK" and attempted to remove it, but I was informed
that it was no longer located where it had been installed. I accepted the
offer to have the entry removed.
I have no idea why the SDK is not where it had been installed. Perhaps I
should not have removed the entry, for then I could have searched the
Registry to see what it was looking for, and where, with the possibility I
could have hunted for it. I don't move system software around willy-nilly.
All I can imagine is that Windows Update, which I used frequently, found a
need to move it.
In any case, I'm stuck. Any suggestions.
Thanks in advance,
Richard Muller

As I said in a previous reply, I found a Core SDK entry that I was able to
delete, but I'm still getting the same symptom that I spelled out in my
original post. Do you have any other suggestions?
If you have "Common Setup Files" entry, then delete it too. This is part of
Platform SDK.

Best regards.
I did find "Common Setup Files" in the Windows Installer Cleanup list and
deleted it. (It wasn't listed in Add/Delete. I did not reboot.) When I
tried to download the Core SDK and two other recommended components (MDAC
2.7 and Windows Installer SDK), I got the same symptom again.
To help you assess the situation instead of guessing what may be causing my
problem, I've attached a file with snapshots of the upper and lower half of
the list presented by Windows Install Cleanup. Hopefully that will display
the "culprit(s)".
Again, thanks for attention to my dilemma.
