Does anyone know of a way to get MsiZap to only report changes it will
make, if any? I'm looking at the doc for it at
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/msi/setup/msizap_exe.asp
but I don't see any way to accomplish this. Msizap ? also has no info
about this.

I presume that what you're asking for is something like a "-fake" option where
it would run through all of the motions but never act on them? If so, that's
not currently supported by msizap today.

However, if you have suggestions, feel free to submit them via
http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp.

I know that MsiZap is part of the Windows installer SDK but I'm
wondering if the source code for it could be made available. If not
I'll just have to port the output to a txt file and write my own
version to support reporting without deleting.

The source code for MsiZap is unavailable in the SDK. Currently there are no
plans to make it available -- as it deals with private configuration data
stores.

I'll relay your request for a MsiZap "fake" mode though for future
consideration.

Hi,

I suspect you have a problem you are trying to solve, perhaps asking about the problem might help.

My 2 cents worth,

My problem is that the powers that be in my company don't like me
running MsiZap on a machine that I suspect has some weird vestage of
our install hanging out on it. They want to know the exact registry
setting that is causing any problems that I'm encountering.

Whenever my install starts doing things that are totally unexplainable
in QA I have them first run MsiZap with our product code and then try
to see if they can still recreate the problem. In the past (other jobs)
this hasn't been a problem. But since we've seen a few bugs where we've
had to EndTask on some msiexec processes it's not surprising that we're
seeing some bits of our install hanging out in the registry.
