Hi All,

Has anyone seen this error before?

"Cannot open database file. System error -2147287008"
And then
"Internal Error 2203."

The issue happens after/during InstallFinalize.

Ive done a bit of a search on google and it looks like something to do with
access/share permissions?

Any ideas?

Cheers,

Luke

What's the context here? Is it just a spontaneous error from the install
that terminates the setup? Or are you getting this result from a custom
action trying to open the database? Do you have a nested MSI file?

Hi Phil, thanks for replying :-)

From what i can tell, the error is coming from the install, and appears to
occur at the InstallFinalize action.

There is no nested msi.

Do you think its possible that a custom action is causing the problem during
the InstallFinalize action?

I will try to reproduce the error consistently and then i can run the
install with verbose logging and see if that gives me any more hints.

I dont know if its just me, but when i find errors like this with a Windows
Installer installation, I find it quite hard (actually nearly impossible!)
to find any information on the error or possible cause of the error.

Cheers,

Luke

It's possibly a custom action yes, if you've got one, and especially if it
tries to open the MSI file in some way. Commit CAs run at InstallFinalize.
The log might have a couple more clues.
