Custom GAL Address Book Filtering Issue??

I have a question that I cannot confirm via M$ but have not been able
to make it work at all both via MS Exchange and Active Directory
Queries.

I have a custom address book in the GAL drop down that my companies
leadership insists it needs to contain both groups and users. I have
explained to them that it will not work from experience, but cannot
find the documentation to back me up.

In lieu of not finding documentation, I began trying everything I
could think, up to including using ADSI Editor to build custom
scripts. I began by using Custom Attributes to identify these
particular groups and users, but setting the filter rules to pull both
a user object and group object yeild a blank preview.

Is this possible to filter both users and groups in one search and if
so, how do I accomplish this?
