AFAIK the client will have to specify the port as part of the Uri as else
this is 80 by design (http://server:port/folder/page.htm)....

I'm really surprised the backup software uses this as a default....

Yes and I have asked them again. And they have no options. Really bad since I
have installed quite a few of these lately. Not prepared to eat them and
install something else.
