Using Picture It Publishing Platinum Edition, when I wish to insert a
graphic from the clip-art gallery, Picture It only displays about half the
thumbnails. Everything seems to be fine until I page down about half-way
through the thumbnails, but then I reach a point where the filenames are
shown below where a thumbnail should be, but the thumbnail is not there.
There is no x or other indication that loading of the image failed; there is
merely a blank space where it should be. No error messages appear. Does
anyone know what the problem might be?
Thanks.
Judy

If there is no error message I would suspect that you don't have enough memory. What
is your operating system and how much RAM do you have?

Before opening PIPP...use Ctrl / Alt / Delete (press Ctrl and hold it, press Alt and
hold it, press Delete once and release all three)...this will open your Close Program
window...Then...one at a time, End Task on everything except Explorer and
Systray...then open PIPP. This may free up some memory.

Another possibility is that you need to do some routine maintenance...do you
regularly...Scandisk / Defrag / Delete Temp files / Delete Temporary Internet files /
empty the Recycle Bin...etc. ?

OK, Pianoguy, I'll give your suggestions a try this evening and let you know
if that worked. I have a 750 mhz Pentium III processor with 128 meg RAM, 30
Gigabyte hard drive, Windows 98 SE operating system. I have to admit, I'm
not good about performing maintenance and I don't always close all open
programs when working with PictureIt. I'll try everything you suggest this
evening with the exception of the defrag and see if that works first. The
last time I defragged, it took about 30 hours. I've since learned that it's
better to do it in safe mode, but I'll wait for the weekend when I can
afford more downtime.
Thanks again.

Your system sounds adequate so maybe the maintenance will help. BTW...what percentage
of your hard drive is free?

I mentioned this in another ng that I follow and I received the following reply:

It's beginning to look like you need to dump some Temp files hmmmm? FWIW, I dump Temp
files, Temporary Internet files, and Cookies every day.

Wow, thanks for all your help Pianoguy! My paying job is taking way too
much time away from my playtime. I didn't have time to clean up anything
this evening, but I did "end task" everything that was running in the
background and tried to view the clipart again. This time it worked like a
charm -- every one of them loaded.
I intend to follow your suggestions however when I have a little more time
and clean everything up. I guess I'm going to have to get more diligent; I
didn't realize how much difference it would make.
Thanks again. You're a jewel.

Woo! Hoo! Glad to be of service :o)

You might be surprised how much difference it would make to unload your temp
files...if you don't do it regularly you could have a large chunk of your hard drive
clogged up with them.

When you have time...Right Click your Start Button...select...Explore...delete the
contents of the following folders...C:\Temp, C:\Windows\Temp, C:\Windows\Temporary
Internet Files...all these files will go to your Recycle Bin...if you're afraid
problems will crop up by deleting these files leave them in your Recycle Bin a few
days where they can be restored if necessary. When you're satisfied that they are
useless...empty the Recycle Bin.

Judy,

I have also had the problem with all thumbprints not completing in the
gallery.
I concur with pianoguy about closing all programs except systray and
explorer. This works for me and I have about 50% free hard disk space
and 512mb RAM. Just wanted to illustrate that adding RAM alone may not
solve this particular problem. Following pianoguys instructions is the
way to go as far as I'm concerned.
Incidentally, doing this prior to defragging works too, so long as you
close down your wallpaper, screensaver, antivirus, timed maintenance
programs and, in my case, the ISP floating toolbar. Should cut down
markedly on the time it takes to complete defrag. Until I learned to do
this, degragging was a very l-o-n-g procedure.

Good points, anything running in the background can/will affect defrag.
