Hi John, On 2/9/08 you wrote:

'There's a 60 day trial version available for download if you would like to
give it a try: Microsoft Digital Image Starter Edition 2006

(this product line has been discontinued but you can still download the
Starter Version and run it for 60 days) Unlike the retail version...the
trial does not have the ability to create VCDs and it does not include the
clipart and pre-formatted projects.

I went there and downloaded this but it doesn't work - I cropped a photo,
clicked 'done' and had the same picture after - no crop.

I noticed in other msgs you said a patch was needed so I went back and
downloaded an update - Win32 Cabinet Self-Extractor - but this sasys it can't
find a qualifing version to update.

I'm running Vista and placed the update in the program files, Microsoft
Digital Image 2006 folder and need help. I am also trying to get over losing
Picture It to Vista.

Thanks!

When did you install the Starter Edition?
Could it have expired?

I would suggest trying the Crop tool again...

Go to....Format / Crop / Canvas...

Adjust the Selection Frame to include the portion
of the picture you wish to retain.

Click...Done.

The patch is for Vista Compatibility and is for
the 'retail' version of Digital Image Suite 2006.

it......wierd..... any other suggestions?

I just tried a different pic and everything works. The first file was a .mix
instead of a .jpg so that must be the problem.

Thanks, John. I really like this program as a replacement for Picture It!
and will try to get the Anniversary Edition as soon as I can.

Good, I'm glad you discovered the solution.

If you save the .mix file as a .jpg you can crop
it too.

Also...it may be a layered file if you go to...Edit /
Flatten All Objects...you should be able to crop it.

Thanks very much, John. I'll try the 'flatten' selection. This program is
certainly more detailed than Picture It!. I'm sure to love the additional
options.
