Please can someone advise me.
A friend told me I should download Windows Defender. I know very little about p.c.'s so would like to know what Windows Defender does and whether I should download it?

Many thanks.

Windows Defender is primarilly an anti-spyware program that encompases using
the Internet and the effects on your machine. I would ask for an opinion in
an Internet Explorer, and or, XP newsgroup. Spyware can affect Outlook
Express, but your question is not really suited for a Outlook Express
newsgroup.

For Internet Explorer questions not pertaining to Outlook Express, please
post to one of the following:

IE6 Specific Newsgroup:

IE General newsgroup, (For IE6 and IE7):
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general

Windows XP General Newsgroup:

Crossposted to Security Home Users newsgroup via crosspost
(news://msnewsmicrosoft.com/microsoft.public.security.homeusers).

Your question is OT for OE General newsgroup but I'd strongly recommend
installing Windows Defender (free!) on your WinXP machine, Lyn.

See http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx.

NB: The Defender-specific links are found in the right-hand menu on the
above page. The links in the left-hand menu are specific to Home User
Security in general.

Microsoft has established separate newsgroups for Windows Defender support
and comments. See
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/newsgroups/default.mspx

NB: Use the OE information on the above page to access the Defender
newsgroups. The links on the page are to the web-interface for accessing
the newsgroups and it's been "broken" for over a month now.
