I am trying to add any of my contacts folders to the address book

When I go the the Outlook Address Book tab of the contacts' folder
properties, the "Show this folder as an E-mail address book" checkbox
is disabled.

Why?

Thanks.

I don't have "Outlook Address Book" as an available information
service.

I do have "Personal Address Book" that is installed though.

Add the following to your C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MAPISVC.INF file (Oh, make a
copy before you try this, just in case)

In the [Services] section at the top of the file add this to the list:

CONTAB=Outlook Address Book

At the bottom of the file add these sections:

[CONTAB]
Providers=CONTABP
PR_SERVICE_DLL_NAME=contab.dll
PR_SERVICE_SUPPORT_FILES=contab.dll
PR_SERVICE_DELETE_FILES=contab.dll
PR_SERVICE_ENTRY_NAME=ServiceEntry
PR_RESOURCE_FLAGS=SERVICE_NO_PRIMARY_IDENTITY | SERVICE_SINGLE_COPY

[CONTABP]
PR_PROVIDER_DLL_NAME=contab.dll
PR_RESOURCE_TYPE=MAPI_AB_PROVIDER
PR_PROVIDER_DISPLAY=Outlook Address Book
PR_RESOURCE_METHODS=STATUS_SETTINGS_DIALOG

Try to add the service after you save the file.

I already have this in the MAPISVC.INF file.

What seems to be missing from my system is the contab.dll file.

Do you have a CONTAB32.DLL on your system?

What version of Outlook are you using? Can you get a copy of it off of your
Outlook install CD?

OK, heres all the particulars:

Microsoft (R) Windows NT (TM) Server
Version 4.0 (Build 1381: Service Pack 3) x86 Uniprocessor Free

Micrsoft Exchange Server 5.5 (Build 1960.5)

Office 97 SR1

Outlook 98 from the Microsoft CD "Running Outlook 98" (8.5.5104.6).
Corporate or Workgroup

I have tried unloading Outlook 98, rebooting, and reloading from the
CD and from the Microsoft site. I always seem get an error now, that
says something about the installation not being complete and making a
reference to the Corporate or Workgroup functions.

Rename your MAPI32.DLL then try reinstalling the Corporate/Workgroup mail
mode component.
