Are you connected to the network that the SMTP server is on? Does the SMTP
server possibly require authentication?

Whenever I try to send an email through SMTP, using either outlook or
outlook
express, with any of a number of different email accounts, I get an error
saying
the message could not be delivered and that the server response was '550 not
local host whatever.com, not a gateway' What does this mean? How do I fix
it? I
know my POP3 and SMTP servers I right, I've used the same ones for a long
time,
it just stopped working.

It's just a standard web email server, so for www.thebluecurve.com for example,
the POP3 and SMTP servers are both mail.thebluecurve.com

But are you on the BlueCurve's network?

What he means is, are you dialed up or connected via Bluecurve, or via
another provider? If it's someone else's connection, you may have to use
their SMTP server. BlueCurve may have recently implemented smtp relay
prohibitions for security and to prevent spam.

It sounds like the mail server won't allow you to relay through it. (Spam
prevention)

Check your mail servers configuration and see if you are allowed to relay through
it. Or call whomever provides you mail service.

You may also want to check the option on the Server tab of your mail
account properties for "My server requires authentication"
