How can I send to a distribution list and exclude a single member.
For example,
I want to send to the whole department but exclude the secretary because it
is about a surprise birthday party for her?

You'd have to put all the members in manually. There's no exclude command.

That is too bad.

ccMail and Notes let you do this.

The 1000 person distribution lists get a little cumbersome to add one at a
time.

Perhaps there is a way to have outlook expand the distribution list in the
TO column so I can manulayy find and delete a single person?

Just right click the DL and select Properties. Then you can manually
add/remove members.

Only if it is a personal distribution list.
