Reporting of scrolling bug in Outlook 2002

Honestly Microsoft's site didn't seem very serious or sincere, and I get the
feeling they care more about feedback from enrolled beta testers, and
perhaps automatic feedback from crash reporting tools, than they do about
the site I reported from. I wonder if the "Microsoft Wish" site here
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;EN-US;FEEDBACK is really
the only bug submission tool for Joe average Microsoft customers. So I'm
posting the bug report to the news group in hope that everyone else that has
this problem will reply and make a very long thread and give this long
standing bug some much needed exposure.

The problem involves using my logitech wheel mouse (model M-C48) with
outlook 2002. The actual Microsoft products involved are Office XP, which
is running on my Windows XP system. The Logitech Drivers I am using are the
latest version 9.73. I have seen reports of these problems existing over a
broad range of logitech drivers, and on MS Outlook 2000 as well as 2002.

Between MS and Logitech, the problem I describe below needs to be addressed
and fixed.

Problem Description:

If I try to scroll an HTML formatted message in the "preview pane," the
"inbox list" also scrolls, which is completely absurd!! (the inbox properly
stays put when scrolling a plain text message.)

The "solution" for me was to go into logitech's control panel for my wheel
mouse and check "Use MS office compatible scroll only." This fixed the
incorrect scrolling of the inbox, but with THIS option checked, scrolling
the address book does not work when viewed by clicking the open book icon on
the toolbar. So either way you set the prefs, something breaks in Outlook.

So hit the reply button if you have this problem too, or a solution.

So, Outlook behaves as expected when using any other wheel mouse? If this
only occurs when using LogiTech's wheel mouse, why do you think this is an
Outlook problem? It is up to the various manufacturer's to produce software
that works with Outlook, not the other way around.

Just curious as to what Logitech had to say about the problem as it is their
device. Please post the information you receive from both parties, as i am
curious to know who will be the first to respond with useful information.

I figured I don't know whose problem it is, and better to inform too many
people than too few.. I don't have any other wheel mouse, so I have no
assurance that this problem limited to logitech, or this mouse specifically.

One reason I expect MS is partly to blame, is I am surprised to see
scrolling implemented in so many different ways. I expect MS has failed to
follow standard practice, and has implemented scrolling peculiarly in these
differently behaving fields.. (Address book vs. preview pane vs. message
list.)

I'll be sure to post back any replies I get from the involved companies.
I'd still like to see responses if there are other users out there
experiencing this same problem. In my book, the jury is still out regarding
whose problem this is. Anybody else have this problem with a non-logitech
mouse? Now that would be interesting news..

I only asked as I had been using a Logitech cordless mouse and keyboard and
did not find this problem. I switched recently to an Office keyboard and
Optical mouse (both USB, not RF) so I was curious what the current
implementation was. I stopped using the Logitech combo about 6 months ago.
