Who knows about @Home?

I've just installed cable internet access (comcast@home) & cannot get my
Outlook 2000 accounts configured to receive e-mail. Comcast 800 support says
they "may not allow third-party e-mail access & they do not support
Outlook".

With other isp's I've had I have no trouble setting up pop accounts using
the pop account as "incoming" and the isp's mail server as "outgoing".
Messages are going out fine...

Is comcast really being this proprietary? If so I'm not going to be a happy
camper... If not, I need to know what else to try.

Thanks in advance for any help!

For e-mail *application* you can choose either Outlook Express or Netscape
Messenger - is that your question? (or are you asking for their outgoing
server name?)
Thanks-Nina

I'm an @home (AT&T Broadband) customer. Their mail system is not
proprietary and can be checked with a mulitude of POP/SMTP clients. What I
have discovered most is that problems arise when one is sitting behind a NAT
router. When this happens the enduser will lose lose connectivity to
@home's email, news, and www servers. To fix, one just has to enter the
full dn to the server. Here is a quick example...

mail.<city>.<state>.home.com

Thanks for reminding me...my bad. I forgot to state that I am behind a
Linksys Router, Model BESR41 V.2

But I have entered the full dn as you suggested and it is still not
working...I'll keep trying.

Thanks for your help.

Well, it looks like it is safe to say that you have internet connectivity
from your account since this message is getting here. Did a little digging,
and the IP address for your mail server is:

24.0.95.82

The big question is... when you post here -- are you connected to the NAT
router?

Yes, I am connected to the NAT router right now. The newsgroup posts go
through & I have excellent Internet connectivity. I have set up @home
accounts and all work fine in Outlook. It's just when I try to send/receive
via Outlook on my existing account: nina...@ninalove.com that I get a
"server not found" message.

Since I am able to check this account successfully via the web, I know it's
working.

BTW I found an article on this issue on the Linksys site:
http://www.linksys.com/support/kb.asp?kbid=122

I have double-checked all these settings & they are ok.

There must be just *one little thing* I need to change...I'll keep hammering
& post if I get it fixed. Any more suggestions are still welcome!

Thanks, Nina

odds are you are resolving to the public interface of your router, so you
might want to try the IP address of 64.177.47.190. (This is the mail
exchanger record for mail.ninalove.com)

As for the sending part, Apollo Hosting may not let remote networks send
through them. (Basically it would be seen as a relay unless other
arrangements were made like you have to use SMTP AUTH, collect mail before
sending, .etc.)

Attached is final solution from Nina

Too simple for words. I had it cmg in to an old account (roman.net) that
fwds to this one & that works fine. Thank you *very* much! (Will you post
this sol'n to the newsgroup so others can find it...or will anyone else be
as obtuse as I was?)

Thanks again,

Nina

Go to the Tools-Accounts menu, choose the account there, and write down all
the information on the general, and the server tab.

Then, goto Outlook 2000, and re-enter the same information.

That will get your outlook 2000 working.

That's it!
