Public Folders - Search Subfolders is Greyed Out

On the network at work we use the public folder system in Outlook 2003 and
the public folder system is provided by our Exchange 2003 server. I have
been asked why that when an advanced find is selected from a subfolder held
within the public folders and "Browse" is clicked in order to select
multiple folders that the search subfolders is greyed out and it is also not
possible to check more than one folder. This is not the case when performing
the same actions on folders held in the local mailbox. This cannot be a
permissions problem as I am able to perform these actions on a users mailbox
that I have added to Outlook, for which I only have reviewing permissions.

Does anybody know if this is a known bug in Outlook 2003? Is there a
workaround for this problem and could you provide any links to articles on
the web which describe this problem? It would be useful to know an answer to
this as I get asked all the time.

It's due to the design of public folders. Advanced search creates a
temporary search folder for your results and you can't do that with the
public folders. So you can only use the advanced search on one folder at a
time in public folders or any other store that doesn't support search
folders. It's actually an Exchange problem and not Outlook's.
