Outlook98 Used to Report # Msgs Downloading

I re-installed Outlook98 and the dialup account on a PC here, and the
user tells me he *used* to have a little box by the systray that told
him the number of incomming messages.

Would it have been Outlook98 that provided that, and if so, how do I
get it back?

That is a feature of Outlook in Internet Mail Only mode. See
http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/choosingmode.htm on differences betwen IMO
mode and Corporate/Workgroup mode.

Sue, do you know if these "modes" are going to go away in the next version
of outlook? They sure are a hassle and the fact that you only have certain
options available in one mode or another is really bad.

Yes. Outlook 10 will lose the mode distinctions. That's the number-one
compelling feature I've seen so far. See
