I have a system with Office 2000 installed, and every
time I try to open an email message, I get an error that
Outlook caused a problem in OUTLLIB.DLL, and when I click
OK, Outlook closes.

The funny thing is, when I turn on the Preview Pane, I
can read the emails just fine. I uninstalled and
reinstalled Office, but I get the same result. Outlook is
configured for Internet Email, Microsoft Mail, Outlook
Address Book, and Personal Folders. I tried scanning the
PST, and even created a new one, but it didn't work.

If anyone has any info on this, I'd greatly appreciate it.

THanks,

Ken Jancef

to
try renaming outcmd.dat and outllib.dll. once done, kick of a detect and
repair via the add/remove applet in the control panel for Office/Outlook
2000.

f you are using MS office 2000, then here is the solution. Dowlload
the Office 2000 Service Release SR1a update and Office 2000 Service
Pack 3 available on the Microsoft Website at
http://microsoft.com/downloads/results.aspx?productID=3A4E9862-CDCE-4BDC-8664-91038E3EB1E9&freetext=&DisplayLang=en
If at all you have got any email just before you started having this
problem, try to delete that email and if you cant thats fine too.
Reinstalling office or renaming outllib.dll may not help you. I had
the same problem and I really had to work hard to figure out whats
going on. Atlast this is what that worked fine. If you have something
other than office 2000, justdo the same thing. try to download service
packs for that.
Good Luck.

Rename the OUTLLIB.DLL file.
Open teh control panel, add/remove programs, Microsoft Office/Outlook.
Choose the repair option and reinstall the program.
