I recently started using Outlook 2007 (12.0.4518.1014) in order to synch to
my Blackberry. Prior to this I have been using Windows Live Mail for
emailing and contacts, unfortunately, Live Mail isn't supposed yet, so I
move over to the Outlook.

I have the same email account setup in Outlook as I had in Live Mail, I have
two hotmail accounts and two POP accounts. The first issue is that it takes
much longer to download messages with Outlook. There is typically a delay
of 4-5 seconds from when I click on an message to when I see it on my
preview pane. With Live Mail it was almost instantaneous.

Second issue is Outlook not being able to connect to the hotmail server due
to the username/password not working. I know that the user name/password
are correct, however, I frequently get the pop-up which requested my user
name and password whenever it check for messages despite me checking the
"Remember Password" box. Outlook and Hotmail are not communicating, as I
frequently get this message:

-------------------------------------
"Task 'Buffet300 - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC32) : 'Access to the
account was denied. Verify that your username and password are correct. The
server responded 'Unauthorized'. "
-------------------------------------

Again, I know that user name and password are correct, it just works
sporadically.

These issues are very annoying, and the entire reason to use the program. I
don't understand why one Windows program can run so flawlessly (Live Mail),
but the other program struggles with it.

Any help would be appreciated...

The two programs are designed by two different teams for two different
groups of users. Live mail uses simple mapi, outlook uses extended mapi.
extended mapi is slower but more powerful than simple mapi. Extended mapi is
the reason you can use outlook to sync with the blackberry, instead of live
mail.

Outlook will be somewhat slower downloading email but I'm not sure that is
your problem as you mention its slow to show in the preview pane. Or are you
only downloading headers and downloading the full message when you select
it?

Where would I check to see if I'm only downloading headers? I did a search
through Options but I don't see anything....

Thanks,
-Jason

Ctrl+Alt+S will open the send /receive dialog. Select your send and receive
group and click Edit - the download setting are there.

Right now I'm downloading the entire message, not just headers. Any other
ideas why it would be running so much slower?
