I despise, abhor, detest, hate, and feel utter contempt for Outlook's
proclivity to correct my decisions about the case of names, company names,
etc. I use (rather, I would LIKE to use) LOTS of all-lowercase fields in my
small office operations, but OUTLOOK WON'T LET ME!!!

Is there an easy fix for this, or do I need to write a VBA app to handle it?
I'll do ANYTHING to kill this feature (and I'd REALLY like to torture it a
bit . . . and chuckle callously as it dies, slowly, before my very eyes).

Help?!??!??!

This has nothing to do with programming. Use the settings in
Tools|Options|Spelling to set how your messages are handled.

I wasn't talking about my MESSAGES. I am referring to the autocorrect
feature in all of the actual form fields throughout Outlook. For instance:
if I add a new contact and wish to name the contact--in
LOWERcase--"ev1.net"--I can not do it. Outlook changes it to "Ev1.Net."
There is no setting under tools|options|spelling to turn this feature off.
Believe me, that is (obviously) the first place I looked.

In the body of my mail and messages I can spell things however I like
provided I either add the "mis"spelled word to my dictionary, or don't mind
the red squiggles, or don't want to use the spell checker at all.

While your at it, I'd love to know how to change the mask on the phone
numbers as well (if possible). I use the following format on all business
correspondence:

555/555-5555

thanks,

Phone number fields are formatted according to the country locale
specified. The masks are not changeable.

To enter a lower case name for a contact, use the Full Name button and
enter it in lower case. It works OK for me that way.

Thanks for the info. I'm sure you think I'm rather dense at this point, but
I assure you I've tried EVERYTHING to enable lower case entries. The only
way I'm able to get it to work is to do "in field editing" of the contact
information after it is already saved and visible in my contact view.

Nonetheless, after I got your message I went back and tried it again (on the
off chance that I had overlooked something so obvious). It doesn't work for
me. It will not, without the extremely tedious and time-consuming workaround
mentioned above, allow me to enter lowercase.

(I have disabled any and all autoformatting type options that I can find,
including the e-mail "automatic check name").

What could I be overlooking here?

I'm not really sure. I don't have any special settings, I just used
the Full Name dialog box brought up with the button next to the name
field in a contact form. If I use the name field itself, I repro the
behavior you report, but in the full dialog box (the one with separate
fields for first, middle, last names, etc.) I can freely enter lower
case and when I exit that dialog box the names are not converted to
Proper case.
