Thanks,

Hi Sue,

If I am using Outlook, where is the data actually stored; in Outlook or on
Exchange Server?

Thanks,
Amanda

What data? Data in an Exchange mailbox is on the Exchange server, possibly with a replica on your local system. Data in a Personal Folders .pst file is wherever that file is stored.

For instance,

Contacts stored in a public folder in Outlook. Where is this data stored? I
guess what I'm really asking is what is the relationship between Exchange
Server and Outlook? Is Outlook just the client for data that is really
stored on the Exchange Server or are these two things totally independent of
each other. The company I am working for uses Outlook and also has an
Exchange server.

Thanks again,
AC

Contacts in a public folder are stored on the Exchange Server and possibly in an offline folders .ost file (a replica) on one or more users' local systems.

Outlook is a client for Exchange. It also can operate without an Exchange backend in a standalone configuration accessing POP and IMAP accounts. And it can act as a client for at least some other enterprise mail servers.

You can only migrate mailboxes from the source server if the source server is not part of the same Exchange 2003 organization as the server that is running the Migration Wizard.

Manually process not secure & easy without complete technical knowledge & proper guidance, most chance server corruption so take backup before starting migration So use any professional tool for migration notes to pst see http://exchangeserver.tumblr.com/post/1356805997/shortcomings-of-using-migration-wizard-for-lotus-notes
