Setting up Microsoft Exchange account using Outlook 2007 under Vista

I had to make a quick purchase to replace a stolen computer and got a
64 bit HP dv7-1240 with Vista Home Premium and installed Office
Professional 2007. When I tried to set up Outlook to access my work
email account on the exchange server, the Wizard set up an account and
downloaded all of my inbox to that account, apparently removing it
from the server.

When I tried to manually configure an exchange server account in
Outlook, I got a message indicating that I could not set up an
exchange account while Outlook is running and should exit and click on
the "Mail" icon in the conrol panel. Unfortuantely, there is no
"Mail" icon in the control panel on my system. I know there is a mail
icon in the Windows XP control panel but don't think it appears until
you have set up a mail account. I have set up both the Outlook
account and a Windows Mail account for another server, but still don't
see a mail icon.

Any suggestions for setting up an exchange server account will be
greatly appreciated. Suggestions for getting my inbox back on the
server would also be great.

In a 64-bit environment you can find the Mail applet in the 32-bit applets
section of Control Panel.

You can also use Start-> right click on Outlook at the top of the Start Menu
and choose Properties. That only works if you left the default Start Menu
and set Outlook as your default mail client.

Once configured, connect to the pst-file which you have downloaded the
emails to via File-> Open-> Outlook Data File...
Now you can copy them back to the server.

Simple when you know how! The "support" techician at Micro Center
obviously didn't.
