Hello all,

I just wanted to let u all know that, let's say a PST(07) file is
password protected which is indexed in Windows Desktop Search.
Searching for the keywords like HTML or name of the account holder
still displays E-mails which is password protected in the Windows
Desktop Search Window.

Nothing Offense, but what's the point of having a password!

Heh. That's kinda funny in a scary sort of way.

But, on the other hand, you have a better chance of either posting it here
using the web interface as a suggestion or of calling in to technical
support, letting them know about the issue and then asking for a refund.

Or finding an Outlook PM who blogs and commenting on their blog.

So how do YOU know the indexing did not occur WHILE you had the PST
file open? You load Outlook, you get prompted for the password, you
enter the password, and now the PST file is opened and left opened
during your entire Outlook session. So while you have the PST (or any
other protected file) opened then indexing could get in to go ferret
out information. You enable a process to go hunting in your files and
then you go unprotecting them while this other process is doing its
hunting. So it is doing what you told it to do. You really finding
the loss in CPU cycles and consumption of data bus bandwidth of real
importance to do the indexing? I've turned it off every since it
showed up in Windows or Office.

"PST files that are not opened in Outlook are not indexed"
Well, then the converse is that PST that are opened in Outlook ARE
indexed! The full statement is:

"PST folders that are not loaded in Outlook are not indexed. Make sure
your PST folders are loaded in Outlook and that they are selected to
be indexed in WDS. Check in WDS indexing locations dialog to ensure
all the respective folders are checked. Once the PST is loaded be sure
to restart Outlook to index the new folders."
So why did you include the .pst files in the list of included files
that you WANT indexed?

By the way, in Google Groups, you need to specify a valid e-mail
address during registration to open an account with them. However,
you are still expected to configure that account's options to specify
a moniker (nickname) for yourself rather than just default to using
your e-mail address used during registration as your moniker. See
https://www.google.com/accounts/ManageAccount?hl=en.
