In attempting to send a facsimile from within Outlook via the Microsoft fax
program, the program returns error message 0x800C8100. The program no longer
sends facsimiles.

I reinstalled the fax transport system in Outlook and also removed and
reinstalled the fax program in Windows XP Professional, both to no avail.
Any idea why the spontaneous failure of the program and what can be done to
repair it?

Is it your contention that you were once able to fax from Outlook and now
you cannot?
If so, then it seems to me that you should provide the following
information:
1. Outlook version
2. Fax software
3. How you integrated the two
4. Changes you made that disabled this function.

Hello Russ:

I use Microsoft Outlook 2003.
I use the Microsoft Software that is provided with Windows XP Professional.
Allegedly, the two are automatically integrated.
I did nothing to disable one from the other.

In no way are the two automatically integrated. Might want to read up on how
to do so:

Hello Russ:

Let us say that the Fax program and Outlook were well integrated and
operational at one time and remained operative for several months. Then, the
system produced the referenced error message and no longer accepts facsimile
messages.

That is the crux of the matter to me, not whether one has to invoke multiple
steps to install Fax and integrate it with Outlook. (all of which I did, by
the way).

Regards,

T.W.L

Have you tried using the fax service on its own and examining its status to
see where the problem lies? What system changes were made before the error
started arising? By what method are you sending faxes when you get the error
and what other transports are in your Outlook profile?

Hello Russ:

The fax program works on its own. Besides the fax service, I use Microsoft
Exchange. To the best of my knowledge, there have been no changes to the
system. I am sending facsimilies by adding a valid facsimile address into
the "to" field of an Outlook Email.

Examine the order of the transports you have set for your profile. When
using Exchange, you may need to move Fax above Exchange, or use a separate
profile entirely.
